The Cobble Hill Historic District was once where the forts stood tall during the Revolutionary War. It's a nice place to raise a family with picturesque NYC tree-lined blocks and townhouses. Long home to a thriving Italian community, now the mega-neighborhood BoCoCa (Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens) is very popular among French expats. Family-run shops, mostly on the two commercial main streets—Court and Smith Streets—are a major attraction and so are the Italian meat markets and old-time barber shops. A little trendy and a little hip, this neighborhood preserves a friendly atmosphere to stroll the sidewalks for a day or hit one of the bars or and restaurants at night.
