Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in the East River of New York City. It lies between the island of Manhattan to its west and the borough of Queens to its east. Running from Manhattan's East 46th to East 85th Streets, it is about two miles (3 km) long, with a maximum width of 800 feet (240 m). There are three main ways to access the island: the F train, the Roosevelt Island tramway and it is accessible by car from Queens. The population (mostly in rental buildings) is expected to continue growing. Recently Cornell University has made plans to build a $2 billion Technology Campus and Office Complex which will break ground in 2014. Surely this will boost the island's attractiveness and future development even further.
