Bushwick was named by the Dutch colonists that named it Boswyck, or "town in the woods". Not so green anymore, the neighborhood has been heavily industrialized and until recently was one of the poorest parts of town. It is, however, quickly transforming into the next destination for the creative-minded that are tickling in from ultra-hip-but-overpriced neighbor Williamsburg. They are drawn by new dive bars, bodegas, bistros and gallery spaces that flourish in Bushwick’s converted loft spaces. Supported by the Dominican and Puerto Rican communities this is one neighborhood where 5 dollars will still get you a meal. Definitely a neighborhood to keep an eye on.
