Harlem is located west of Fifth Avenue up to the Hudson River and stretches from the northern tip of Central Park to 155th Street. In the last twenty years the area below 125th street has experienced a massive building boom with newer apartment buildings ranging from studios to lofts and luxury condos. It also has many of the finest original townhouses in New York. Due to the influx of former downtowners there is a growing number of high-end shop, restaurants, music halls and theatre galleries making the neighborhood more and more attractive. Harlem's distinctive character prevails in the historic churches, elegant row houses, museums and of course famous Jazz clubs. Main access is through the 2 and 3 subway lines that run north on Lenox Avenue and the A and C line on St. Nicholas Avenue.
